Sunny, Sociable and Friendly
According to the International Australian Labradoodle Association, the Labradoodle temperament is: "Extremely clever, sociable, comical, joyful, energetic when free and soft and quiet when handled. They should approach people in a happy friendly manner, keen and easy to train. They should display an intuition about their family members or handler's current emotional state or needs. This ability to "know" is what has made the Australian Labradoodle an excellent dog for individuals with special needs." We certainly agree with their statement on Labradoodle temperament!
Our Australian Labradoodles love the company of us, their human family and the friends we have over. When we first got our Doodles, we were thrilled to see how well they interacted with our 6 busy children, and then how they settled with us when we had some down time. They are certainly social creatures and love to play and entertain us! They take their social cues from us and follow along with what we do as a family.
They are smart and catch on to obedience training and potting training easily! (yes, you can even teach them to ring a bell at the door to be let out.)They have the wonderful disposition that wants to please, so training is a joy.
They have been known to make wonderful service/therapy dogs because of their gentle nature. Because of the calm Labradoodle temperament they make great additions to homes with children, which we can attest to! At times, young children and young puppies can get quite exuberant, so we recommend that there be constant supervision when they get together.
We've even been honored to be asked to have our pups on one of the Beethoven movies (staring the St. Bernard) as well as bringing some of the parents to a local university as therapy dogs/ de-stress pets during the student's exam time. Both were a wonderful success!
We would be more than happy to talk to you about whether now is a good time for you and your family to get a Doodle.
